The Green Motel productions is a company by Maarten Besseling. Maarten uses a professional self build network of professionals, funds, embassies and organisations to achieve the best results and always thinks a step ahead.
The Green Motel
Right after he graduated at the SAE (International School of Audio Engineering) in 2001 Maarten started his own recording studio under the name The Green Motel recording studio. In this studio Maarten worked with a big variety of musicians and music styles (such as Room Eleven and the Marzio Scholten Quartet), and even recorded about a hundred Dutch audio books (such as 'De Zwarte met het Witte Hart' by Arthur Japin, 'The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy' by Jan Meng and 'Hersenschimmen' by J.Bernlef).
In 2010 Maarten decided to give up the studio and only aim on the recordings for the In A Cabin With project, (international) cultural productions and fundraising.
In A Cabin With
While running his recording studio he founded (and is still running) the recording project In A Cabin With. In A Cabin With is an international recording project which invites various (Dutch) musicians to a unique location anywhere in the world to write, produce and record an entire album in collaboration with local musicians. The main goal of In A Cabin With is to create an ongoing collaboration with musicians all over the world and establish clusters to learn and play music together.
Recent projects: Kyteman in Thailand in collaboration with The Bangkok Symphonic Orchestra, Bettie Serveert in Australia in collaboration with the band You Am I ('De Dijk' of Australia), Janne Schra (Room Eleven) and Benjamin Herman (New Cool Collective) in Shanghai China in collaboration with local string and brass ensembles and L'Abattoir, a Dutch collaboration between six musicians from all music styles who have never worked before recorded in Casablanca Marocco including Sticks (Fakkelbrigade, ex-opgezwolle), Daan Schinkel (zZz) and Joppe Molenaar (Voicst)). In 2010 In A Cabin With also started to do organise international tours/live presentations with the most succesful In A Cabin With bands. Two examples: a Candian tour with Chop Wood, Neonbelle and Stan Diego and a In A Cabin With presentation at The Dutch Cultural Center in Shanghai, August 2010. www.inacabinwith.com
Factories of The Imagination
In 2009 Maarten met Elena Tupyseva who is the director of the Dance organisation Tsekh in Moscow Russia. Together they developed an Europe-Russia artist in residence program to create two impressive cross-over productions in Russia involving Dance, Theater, Music, Video arts and ofcourse choreografy. Starting with an international conference about cross-over productions and ending with a weekly festival in Russia involving classical-art, community-art, (modern)video-art, photography, (Russian) poetry, theater, dance, music and other live performances. website coming soon
House of Orange
House of Orange is a special Canada-Netherlands cultural festival organised and founded by Remco Volmer at the Dutch Embassy of The netherlands in Ottawa. After the In A Cabin With session recorded in Ottawa in 2009 Maarten and Remco found out they had a lot in common concerning cultural interests. Between May 2009 and May 2010 Maarten and Remco had close contact about the booking, programming and finances concerning the Dutch bands at the festival and had (more than) several 'brainstorms' about the setup and interpretation of the festival. The festival was a huge succes in Ottawa and will definitely continue the coming few years. www.houseoforange.org
Soundabout and The Canal Sessions
Inspired by several international video projects like La Blogotheque and The Black Cab Sessions Maarten felt the need the get some similair video projects running in The Netherlands.
The Canal Sessions is a projects which invites (international and Dutch) bands who play in the city of Utrecht to join in for a boatride through the beautiful canals of Utrecht and play some of their songs acoustically on the boat while enjoying the scenery, which are recorded with HD cameras. www.thecanalsessions.com
Soundabout is a more documentary type of project. Every month a band is invited to show us around a city or town which was important to their music. This could be their hometown or a city they got inspired by. www.soundabout.eu
